1929 Scott Works TT Racer: 'WX 179'
Engine#RZ1545, Frame #TT3/29M,
Gearbox#29TT
WX 179 was used in the 1929 and 1930 Senior TTs, as a Works entry, ridden by Oliver Langton in '29 (when it retired) and Phil Vare in '30. Photos of this bike from the Scott factory archives can be found in 'The Scott Selection, Volume 1', available from the VMCC.
This machine is well documented, and comes with plenty of archival photos and documentation. The registration is retained, as well, in England. The Scott is currently in Scotland, where some restoration work has commenced - including a new Roger Moss strengthened crank, and a new radiator. I'll get more current photos. Asking $20,000.
| From 'The Scott Selection': "The 1929 Scott Senior TT machines had special frames with splayed seat tubes, revised forward magneto position and much shorter chain drive, shown clearly in the photographs...This enabled a large separate oil tank with neaside filler cap to be fitted benind the seat tubes. This supplied the duplex Pilgrim oil pump mounmted on the crankcase door, for main bearing lubrication and separate cylinder wall oiling by handlebar lever. Also shown are liberal lightening holes in the lower frame rails, cooling holes in the front wall of the crankcase, separate chain oilingtank and larger petrol tank. There were six Scott entries for the 1929 Senior TT...It is believed that five (of the six) machines built, survive. This proved to be the last time a Scott works entry competed in the Senior TT races." |
